Digital Media and the Future of Learning

Join us as the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Foundation presents Community Conversations featuring Dr. Mimi Ito at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21 at the Windmill Library.

Author of Hanging Out, Messing Around, and Geeking Out: Kids Living and Learning with New Media, Dr. Ito will talk about how kids are learning through digital media, recognizing the fears and risks, but focusing on maximizing opportunities for learning with the new technologies–online, mobiles and games. Dr. Ito will give examples of parenting strategies, in-school and out-of-school strategies and the growing body of online communities driven by interest groups.

Dr. Ito is a cultural anthropologist specializing in media technology use by children and youth. She holds a doctorate in education and anthropology from Stanford University, and has studied a wide range of digitally augmented social practices, including online gaming and social communities, and the production and consumption of children’s software.
