Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Kicks Off Summer Reading Program 2010

A Summer Reading Program Designed For Elementary-School Age Children and Teens

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District’s Summer Reading Program begins Tuesday, June 1 and continues through Saturday, July 31. Summer reading programs encourage children and teens to continue reading during the summer months. Trends show that children and teens who continue reading throughout the year maintain or even surpass their current reading level.

Make a Splash—READ! is this year’s theme for pre-readers and readers from birth through grade five, and the theme for teen readers is Make Waves at Your Library. The free Summer Reading Program offers children, teens and their families the opportunity to share reading time together and attend special guest programs while keeping track of their reading successes.

Stop by any Library District branch on or after June 1 to pick up a reading log. Participants decide the number of hours to read to earn entries into the Grand Prize Drawing, a $50 gift certificate from Borders for the kids and a $50 gift certificate from Target for the teens.

For more information on dates, times and locations for free kid and teen programs, visit the Library District’s web site at www.lvccld.org.
