We are hosting live theatrical performances of A Christmas Carol performed by the Hampstead Stage Company at five library branches beginning in December. In this timeless tale by Charles Dickens, the miser Ebenezer Scrooge learns the true meaning of Christmas through visits from the spirits of the season.

Acclaimed storyteller David Gonzalez paints a vivid picture of the people and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world in Cuentos: Tales from the Latino World on Sunday, September 30 at 2 p.m. at the Clark County Library.
These stories are filled with memorable characters, fantastic plots and positive messages that are sure to captivate the imagination. Hear about the silly antics of the Puerto Rican hero Juan Bobo or the mysterious powers of the Orishas in a suite of Afro-Cuban stories. Combining English and Spanish words throughout the stories and songs, Cuentos is a perfect introduction to the world of Latino literature and culture. (more…)
We have teamed up with America Reads to bring an after-school tutoring program to five library branches. College students from UNLV are providing help with reading and math to school-aged children. (more…)

The District is pleased to present the acclaimed Beyond Brokeback: A Staged Reading with Music on Saturday, February 11 at 2 p.m. at the Clark County Library.
Inspired by the landmark film Brokeback Mountain, the program consists of staged reading of messages, essays, poetry and music that was conceived and adapted for the stage by Gregory Hinton from the 2007 book Beyond Brokeback: The Impact of a Film written by Members of the Ultimate Brokeback Forum website, culled from over 500,000 posts. Excerpts of poignant and humorous messages, essays, and poetry—by writers young and old, male and female, gay and straight—will be interpreted by six reader/musicians. To celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in May, former Trustee and current LVCCLD Foundation President Tim Wong accepted a check from Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club President Tamar Hoapili. Books were also donated by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and Bill Wright, a member of the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club. These donations will help to augment the Library District’s Pacific Islands collection and will be placed at the Spring Valley Library.
Stop by the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Foundation used book store at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Avenue, Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a half-price sale. There will be a large selection of children’s books, fiction and nonfiction books, CDs and DVDs starting at $.25. Paperbacks will be sold for $.10.
