Spring Valley Library Hosts Travel Fair

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and Prestige Travel have teamed up to host a Sweetheart Travel Fair on Wednesday, February 13 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Spring Valley Library, 4280 S. Jones Boulevard.

Tour the branch to learn about popular destinations through the various resources your library has to offer. Get tips from travel representatives during their presentations and at their travel stations on destinations such as Hawaii, Disneyland and Disney World, and cruising the Caribbean, South Pacific, Panama Canal and more.

Enjoy live dance performances by the Ethnic Express International Folk Dancing Club of Las Vegas at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., and the Scottish Country Dance at 5:15 p.m. There will be drawings for prizes and refreshments.

New Free Resource to Help Businesses Grow

BusinessDecision, a new web-based service that combines extensive consumer household, business, and demographic data with a powerful mapping technology known as geographic information systems (GIS) is now available to our library cardholders for free.

Local businesses will have access to the same consumer and demographic data used by the nation’s top companies to help with such tasks as finding prospective customers, analyzing trade areas, evaluating competitors, identifying new store locations, and targeting media buys and direct mail campaigns. By using BusinessDecision, businesses can reduce costs, improve services to existing customers, and attract new customers. (more…)

Library District Awarded Grant To Develop Opportunities For Teens

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District will receive one of the 12 grants from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in the amount of $89,650 to plan and design a network of mobile Learning Labs with new teen tech programs where teens can develop the skills and knowledge critical for academic success, career opportunity and civic engagement in the future. New! Cloud Printing for Mobile Devices

The Library District has expanded its print services to include cloud printing for mobile devices. Now you can print the most common file types from any smartphone, table, laptop or PC. Access this service from anywhere with a Wi-Fi or 3G/4G Internet connection and an email address.

You can print in black and white (15 cents per page) or in color (60 cents per page). Submit payment via PayPal or use a debit or credit card. Receive a confirmation code by email and then visit the library branch you selected to release your print job.

An optional free app may be installed.

Get Free Online Homework Help at the Library

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District’s web site has a special Homework Help section that can be used from home, at the library or from school. A library card and a computer with Internet access is all that is needed. Just select Homework Help under Quick Links on the Kids or Teens pages to find information on a variety of subjects organized by subject and grade level. (more…)

Windmill Library to Open with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On Saturday, May 7, 2011, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to open the Windmill Library, 7060 W. Windmill Lane. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and will include brief remarks by Executive Director Jeanne Goodrich, Library District Board of Trustees Vice Chair Kelly Benavidez and Clark County Commissioner Susan Brager.
