Club Read: Summer Fun for Kids and Teens
Registration for Club Read, our free program designed for kids and teens to read, earn prizes and have fun, begins Saturday, June 1 and continues through Saturday, August 3. Stop by any library branch to pick up a reading log or register online.
Children from birth to 11 years of age have one log, and teens in grades six and up have a different log just for them. Kids and teens can earn prizes by keeping track of their reading. Every child who signs up for Club Read will get a membership card and a special wallet to put it in! (more…)
5th Annual Over the Rainbow Art Competition
In celebration of GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender) Month and the many contributions and achievements of the GLBT community, we will hold our 5th Annual Over the Rainbow Art Competition in June. This juried art competition exhibit encourages teen and adult artists to participate in showcasing creativity in the visual arts. (more…)
Big Library Read
The new Big Library Read initiative is a joint effort between Sourcebooks, OverDrive and public libraries worldwide. It’s a unique program (May 15-June 1) designed to unite the world in reading the same eBook title at the same time and to demonstrate the influence library patrons (you) can have. New Member Appointed to Library District Board of Trustees
Marilyn Francis Drake was recently appointed to the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District’s Board of Trustees by the City of Las Vegas.
Ms. Drake is a librarian at the Meadows School. Her term will run through April 2017.

Small Business Expo 2013
We will be hosting our first Small Business Expo on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sahara West Library! Join guest speakers: Robin Jay, a Las Vegas-based motivational speaker and a business relationship expert, who has been featured internationally on BBC, MSNBC-TV, Newsweek, CNN, The New York Times and more; San Francisco-based entrepreneur, author and blogger Ben Casnoscha, who was named “one of America’s best young entrepreneurs” by BusinessWeek; and John Assaraf, who has appeared on Larry King Live, Anderson Cooper 360 and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and is an author of two bestselling books, Having It All and The Answer. Local author and leadership coach Christine Ferguson will moderate.
This event is designed to give attendees access to vendors with information and expertise to take their business to the next step. Gain valuable insight by networking with business experts, explore topics of marketing, funding and licensing. Panel discussions will provide information about starting and funding a small business, followed by a questions and answer session.

One-Night Reading of the Play “8”
Join us for the Nevada debut of “8,” a play chronicling the federal trial for marriage equality on Friday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at the Clark County Library. Screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, who penned the Academy Award-winning feature film Milk and the film J. Edgar, based “8” on the actual words of the trial transcripts, first-hand observations of the courtroom drama and interviews with the plaintiffs and their families.
The play “8″ is based on the court case Perry vs. Schwarzenegger, which sought to overturn Proposition 8, the ballot initiative banning same-sex marriage in California. The case is now known as Perry vs. Brown. (more…)
Libraries Closed for Easter
All Las Vegas-Clark County Library District branches will be closed on Sunday, March 31 for Easter. They will reopen at their usual times on Monday, April 1.
