FLASH! The Short, Short Fiction Contest
Local writers residing in Clark County are invited to participate in FLASH! The Short, Short Fiction Contest, an annual pre-festival event of the Vegas Valley Book Festival. Cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 will be awarded. Writers can register online beginning Tuesday, July 10 through Friday, August 17. The project is limited to the first 20 writers who apply for the contest. There is no fee to participate. (more…)
Libraries Closed for Independence Day
All Las Vegas-Clark County Library District branches will be closed on Wednesday, July 4 for Independence Day. They will reopen at their usual times on Thursday, July 5.
Library District Board Holds Elections
At the June 14, 2012, Board of Trustees’ Meeting, regularly scheduled elections for Board officers were held. Kelly Benavidez was re-elected to the position of Chair. Ron Kirsh was re-elected Vice Chair, Keiba Crear was re-elected Secretary and Michael Saunders was re-elected Treasurer. All terms are for the period beginning July 1, 2012, through June 30, 2013.
The other Board members are Shannon Bilbray-Axelrod, Sheila Moulton, Randy Ence, Carol Reese, Robin Wadley-Munier and Ydoleena Yturralde.

At the Sinatra Club Stage Play
In the intimate setting of a one-man stage play, former mobster Salvatore Polisi will reveal episodes of his dangerous life in the streets of New York in At the Sinatra Club on Sunday, July 22 at 2 p.m. at the Clark County Library.
Polisi spent over fifteen years with organized crime families and was an associate of mafia kingpin John Gotti. When he decided to turn away from crime and enter the Federal Witness Protection, he struggled with his civilian identity, and ultimately found redemption and a renewed purpose in life through his writing.
